Karen Lozano, Ph.D., a Julia Beecherl Endowed Professor in mechanical engineering at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, recently was named the Engineer of the Year by Great Minds in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Dr. Lozano was elected by The University of Texas System Board of Regents to receive the prestigious 2013 Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award (ROTA), one of the nation's largest monetary teaching recognition programs in higher education.
